Each year hundreds of volunteers, men and women from age fourteen to
eighty-five, provide valued services to the Gallery in many ways.
Docents: Do you love studying and discussing art? Do you like sharing your passion for art with others? You may want to consider becoming a docent! Docents are volunteers specially trained to guide groups on tours of the Gallery. Administered through the Education department, the program includes an intensive seven-month training in art history. Independent volunteers donate their time in the Gallery Shop and the Robert G. Strauss, Jr. Memorial Library. Trained volunteers also staff the Information Desk, playing an important role in assisting visitors.
Volunteer Groups: The Members' Council, Junior Group, and The New Group concentrate on important fundraising projects and the promotion of the Gallery in the community. The Collectors Gallery, founded in 1933 as the "Picture Lending Library" was one of the first sales and rental galleries within a museum.
